Farhan J. Khawaja, MD

Farhan J. Khawaja MD, FACC, FSCAI, RPVI joined the Orlando Health Heart Institute January 2015. Dr. Khawaja is both an interventional cardiologist and a fellowship- trained and board-certified vascular/endovascular medicine physician. He has specific expertise in complex coronary and peripheral vascular interventions.

Dr. Khawaja earned his medical degree Cum Laude from Albany Medical College in Albany, NY, where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha (AΩA) honor society. He received his Bachelor of Science degree Summa Cum Laude from the Union College/Albany Medical College Accelerated Medical Program in Schenectady, NY, where he graduated as the valedictorian.

After medical school, Dr. Khawaja spent six years at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN performing his internal medicine residency and cardiovascular diseases fellowship. He then completed a fellowship in interventional cardiology at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center in New York, NY. After his interventional cardiology fellowship, Dr. Khawaja remained at Columbia University to perform a dedicated fellowship in vascular and endovascular medicine. He was concurrently appointed to the faculty of Columbia University as an Instructor of Medicine.

Prior to joining Orlando Health, Dr. Khawaja practiced at the Oklahoma Heart Institute in Tulsa, OK, where he served as the director of the Vascular Center. He dedicated a significant portion of his time to the non-invasive and invasive management of patients suffering from peripheral arterial disease.

In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Khawaja has published in multiple journals including Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, Archives of Internal Medicine, American Journal of Cardiology, Vascular Medicine, Journal of Nuclear Cardiology, and Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
Dr. Khawaja is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Interventional Cardiology, Nuclear Cardiology, Vascular Medicine, Endovascular Medicine, and is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI).

He is actively involved in many professional associations including the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions.
